Hello!
I currently co-create and present a baby (0-24 months) programme at the local library branch where I work. I'm in the process of creating this blog as a "assistant", to help in organizing the material we have and how it's used (and re-used). I'm always finding new rhymes or material online, so I also hope this site will help others as well.
Here you'll find the accumulated rhymes, special elements, and book lists we (and other staff) have developed or found, as well as outlines of weekly programmes. While I've listed the sources of most material, unfortunately the origin of some things are unknown. We're always on the hunt for new materials, so while I'm slowly transcribing our "archives", I'll also be listing any new elements we stumble across.
The Programmes
We work in 2-month increments, with 6 different programmes presented on two different mornings (Monday and Friday). Each day is separated into two classes, each class further separated by age (0-11 months and 12-24 months). We prepare 5 weeks worth of programmes, while the 6th week (except for the summer) is a "best of" class. Each class builds upon previous weeks, and during the 6th week we repeat our favourites of the past 5 weeks. During the summer, the programmes are "showcases" of what the library has on offer, and so each of the programmes are self-contained and not repeated from week to week.
The general outline for each programme (developed about a decade ago) contains a repeated opening and closing, a book, a special element and 4-6 rhymes. Parents receive a handout with all the rhymes for the particular week on one side and a small informational on the reverse (articles, ideas from parenting books, kid-friendly recipes, etc.). The handout for the sixth week includes all the songs used in the previous 5 weeks in place of the rhymes (since we don't present any new material).
Enjoy!
Jenn ;)
